Rice price not yet lower despite govt initiatives

Onion, Hilsha, Chilli prices go up

Hiked prices of rice have not decreased yet in retail markets in the city despite different initiatives taken by the government.
The price of onion has also gone up in last few weeks. Besides, the price of Hilsha fish increased suddenly on Friday.
However, the prices of other commodities were found stable in different kitchen city markets yesterday.
In last couple of weeks the government has taken various initiatives, including importing huge amount of rice from abroad, searching and imposing fines for rice hoardings to the rice mill  
owners and whole sellers.
The government reduced import duty by a significant percent in order to reduce rice price, but the benefits have gone into the traders cash bag only, market analysts said.
Those drives had created hopes for the people to decrease the hiked price of rice but failed. Thanked for those steps of the government that the prices of rice were stopped to go further up.
Miniket rice was selling at Tk 55 to Tk 60 per kg and Najirshail at Tk 60 to 65, while Jeerashail, Paijam and Lata were selling at Tk 59-Tk 60 per kg on Friday. Medium quality of Brridhan-28 and Lota were sold at Tk 52-55 per kg. Different types of coarse rice like Swarna were selling at Tk 49 to Tk 50. Similarly, the hybrid quality was selling at Tk 48-Tk 50 per kg.
The wholesale price of rice also stable in Babubazar, Badamtoli, Mohammadpur Krishi Market, Malibagh, Karwan Bazar, Moulvibazar, Shantinagar and Fakirapool wholesales, according to traders.
Green chilli was selling at Tk 100 to 120 per kg, Potato at Tk 18 to 20 per kg, brinjal at Tk 50 to 60, tomato at Tk 100 to 120 a kg, okra at Tk 50-60, parwal at Tk 40 to 45, raddish at Tk 50, arum at Tk 40, snake gourd at Tk 50, french beans at Tk 60 – 70, balsam apple at Tk 50- 60, teasel gourd at Tk 60, carrot at Tk 80, bitter gourd at Tk 50 to 60, cucumber at Tk 30 to 40, green papaya at Tk 20-25, pumpkin (medium size) at Tk 30 to 40 per piece, bottle gourd at Tk 30 to 40, ash gourd at Tk 30 to 40 per piece, cauliflower at Tk 40, coriander leaves at Tk 400 per kg, capsicum (red) at Tk 470 per kg and capsicum (green) at Tk 300 per kg. Lemon was selling at Tk seven to Tk eight per piece.
Locally produced onion was sold at Tk 45 while the imported variety at Tk 50 to 55 a kg in the city markets. But it was sold at Tk 25 to Tk 30 two months ago. Garlic was selling at Tk 100 to 120 a kg and ginger at Tk 100 to 120 a kg.
Hilsha price increased in the market due to upcoming ban to net and sale the fish. As the producing season the government banned to catch and sale Hilsha from October 1 to October 22.
The price was increased by Tk 100-150 per pieces of Hilsha. Two pieces of hilsha weighing 750 gm each were selling at Tk 1100. Four pieces of hilsha weighing 500gm each were selling at Tk 1000.
Of fishes, Pabda was selling at Tk 500-Tk 550, sheat (boal) at Tk 450 to 500, Golsha at Tk 400-500, Tengra at Tk 400-450, Shing and Magur at Tk 450-Tk 800 and Shoul at Tk 350 -450 a kg in the city markets.
Of other fishes, Butter fish was sold at Tk 300 to 350, lobster at Tk 450 to 600, shrimp (River) at Tk 350 to 400, puti at Tk 250 to 450 per kg, cultivated koi at Tk 150 to 180 per kg, Fali Chanda (Rupchanda) at Tk 900 to 1100 per kg, coral fish at Tk 450 to 600 per kg, river Pangas at Tk 350 per kg, cultivated Pangas at Tk 140 per kg, Rajputi at Tk 300 per kg and Telapia at Tk 150 to Tk 200 per kg. lata fish at Tk 250 to 350 and Eel at Tk 450 to 550 per kg, batashi at Tk 400 to 500, Aire fish at Tk 450 to 650, Baila at Tk 400 to 550 per kg, koi (river) at Tk 600. and koi (pond) at Tk 200 to Tk 250.
