Rice price may go up if the entire paddy goes under water in the haor areas. No one will say that the price of rice has gone up as the paddy of Haor has been sunk. Everyone, including the opposition, will then ask the food minister, agriculture minister and the government for answers.
Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque said this while speaking to local journalists after visiting a damaged embankment of Chaptir haor in Dirai upazila under Sunamganj district on Saturday.
“I will tell the Prime Minister about the corruption and irregularities in the construction of PIC dam. I will also talk about the work of crop protection dam in Haor that can be started before December in every year,” the Agriculture Minister said.
At that time, the minister said,
The farmers of Haor will not go without food, Razzaque said, adding that food assistance will be provided to the farmers whose boro paddy has been submerged.
The country has a record food stock as food production has increased manifold, he added.
According to the Agriculture Minister, “The present government has increased crop production to ensure food security during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is always with the people, said Dr Razzaque adding that as long as Sheikh Hasina remains in power, there will never be a food crisis in the country.
He said, anti-liberation forces and some intellectuals want to see food crisis or famine in the country.
“But, their desire will not be fulfilled at all as the government has taken all preparations to this end,” the agriculture minister added.
Meanwhile, Boro paddy of many haors of Sunamganj, Kishoreganj and Sirajganj areas have gone under water due to untimely floods as heavy rain occurred in the upstream of Indian regions. .
