Rice price mark further rise

Anisul Islam Noor :Rice price has increased in the city markets although there s no political unrest in the country, nor the rice production fell. A sack of 50 kg Minicate was selling at Tk1950 on Friday against Tk 1700 last week, BR-29 at 1600 compared with Tk1450, BR-28 at Tk 1700 to Tk 1720. Mini sack (20 kg) of Nazirshail was selling at Tk 1100 which was sold at Tk1000 two weeks ago.The coarse rice was selling at Tk 35 to 37 per kg, Pyjam at Tk 40 to 42 kg, Nazirshail brand of rice at Tk 52 to 58 kg, Minicate at Tk 48-52 kg, Kattari bhog at Tk 75 which was Tk 60 kg seven days ago, Pillau rice (Badsha bhog) at Tk 90 to 120 kg and Kalijira at Tk 115 to 130 kg only. Coarse flour was selling at Tk40 per kg and a 2-kg packet at Tk 75.  Bean was selling at Tk 120 per kg, brinjal at Tk70 to 80, okra at Tk70 to 80, potato (new) at Tk80, green chilli at Tk 120 to 140, french at Tk 80 to 85, tomato at Tk 100 to 120, carrot at Tk 60 to 70 kg, potato (old) at Tk 25 to 30 kg, bitter gourd at Tk 60 to Tk 70 , cucurbitaceous at Tk 60 to 70, cucumber at Tk 40 to 50, sponge gourd at Tk 50 to 60, arum at 35 to 45, radish at Tk 25 to 30, papaya at Tk 30, snake gourd at Tk 50 to 60, pumpkin (medium size) at Tk 60 to 70 per piece, cauliflower at Tk 40 to 45 piece, bottle gourd at Tk 55 to 65 piece, ash gourd at Tk 30 to 40 piece, coriander leaves at Tk 400 kg. Capsicum (red) at Tk 500 kg and capsicum (green) at Tk 350 to 400 kg. The local onion was selling at Tk 78 to 80 per kg, while the imported onion at Tk 77 to 78 kg. Imported garlic’s price also rose by Tk 10 per kg and was selling at Tk 110 to 120 kg only, and local garlic at Tk 80 kg. Imported ginger marked a rise by the Tk 5 to 20 and was selling at Tk 170 to 180 per kg. The locally produced ginger was selling at Tk 70 to 90 kg based on quality. Beef is selling for Tk 400 per kg on Thursday at Khilgaon and the red meat at Tk 550 to 600. A medium size local cock was selling at Tk 380 to 500 per piece and hen at Tk 300 to 370. The broiler chickens’ price stands at Tk 150 to 155 per kg. The egg (farm) was selling at Tk 34 per hali (4 pieces), egg (local) at Tk 45 and egg (duck) at Tk 40 to Tk 44. Pigeon per pair was selling at Tk 200 to Tk 250 and four koil birds were selling at Tk 200 based on size.The price of red lentil remained high and the fine variety of red lentil was selling at Tk 130 per kg, while the imported item (coarse variety) was selling at Tk 115 kg over the week.Five liters of Rupchanda brand canned soybean oil was selling at Tk 490 to Tk 505, loose super palm oil at 75 per liter, sugar price by Tk3 per kg and it was selling at Tk 48 to 50 per kg and molasses at Tk 70 to 120 and flattened rice at Tk 70 to 90.  Two pieces of hilsha each weighing about 800 grams to one kg were selling at Tk 1600 to 2000 at Karwan Bazar fish market on Friday; while a pair weighing 600 to 700 grams were selling at Tk 1200 to 1500. Of the other fishes, Puti was selling at Tk 200 per kg, live puti at Tk 320 kg, Kholisa at Tk 250, Chapila at Tk 300, cultivated koi at Tk 200 to 260 per kg, Fali Chanda (Rupchada) at Tk 1200 kg, Chanda small at Tk 200 kg, walking fish (Shoal) at Tk 300 kg, Eel at Tk 350 to 400 kg, Meni at Tk 300 kg, Sheat (boal) at Tk 600 to 800 kg, Ek-thotta (Kaitta fish) at Tk 300 to Tk 500, Baila at Tk 400 to 600 kg, Coral Fish at 550 kg, river Pangas at Tk 300 kg, cultivated Pangas at Tk 130 kg, Rajputi at Tk300 kg, Tilapia at Tk 140 to Tk 220 kg, Ruhit at Tk 350 to Tk 400 kg, medium size carp (katol) at Tk 250-300 a kg, big size katol at Tk 300 kg, local variety of Cat fish (Shing) at Tk 500-600 a kg, barbel at Tk 800 kg, lobster at Tk 400 to 600 kg, and shrimp (River) at Tk 300-400 kg.
