At a press conference held in the Barishal Reporters Unity on Monday afternoon, the plaintiff of the Riaj murder case and the victim’s elder brother Monirul Islam Ripon demanded a proper investigation of the murder case and punishment to the real culprits.
We want justice for Riaj’s murder. But so far the Police have not been able to arrest Masum, the main accused in the murder case. We want the real motive behind this murder to be revealed as soon as possible, said Monirul Islam Ripon, elder brother and plaintiff of Riaj murder case.
Reading a written statement and answering questions of the journalists in the press conference Ripon claimed that although the murder took place on April 19, the police failed to reveal the mystery and even arrest the main suspect Masum, assistant of killed Riaj.
Second wife of the murdered Riaj confessed under 164 in court as an accomplice of the murderer, but four months after that police arrested three alleged thieves who were also giving confessional statements under Section 164 and claimed they killed Riaj for stealing mobile phones of him. Now the question is who is the real killer?
At the press conference, it was demanded that the real killer of this case should be identified and the mystery must be revealed.
On April 19, 2019, deed writer and money lender Rejaul Islam Riaj was killed at his home by hit of sharp weapon. Police arrested his wife Amina Akther Liza in connection of the murder.
Arrested Liza gave a confessional statement in the court on April 20 before Barishal Metropolitan Magistrate admitted her involvement in the incident.
After that two investigation officers of this case were changed.
Then police commissioner of Barishal Metropolitan Police Sahabuddin Khan directed for more investigation of the murder case and appointed Sagir Hossain, Inspector of Kawnia Police Station, as investigation officer of the case.
After that Jalil Sikdar, Shakil and Raihan, three drug addicted were arrested from Bakerganj in connection of stealing mobile phone sets of killed Riaj.
These arrestees also confessed before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court on August 28 confessed that they chopped Riaj to death during stealing mobile phone sets, said Inspector Sagir Hossain, currently investigation officer of the case.
Charge sheet of the case would be sent as soon as possible, he added.
