Revoke licenses of Hajj agencies involved in anomalies: JS body

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry on Tuesday recommended the government to cancel the licenses of the travel agencies involved in anomalies in hajj management this year.
It also suggested the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry to take necessary steps to fine the hajj agencies, if needed.
The committee came up with the recommendations at its 29th meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad with its chairman Muhammad Faruk Khan in the chair.
The parliamentary watchdog suggested collecting the full payment of Biman’s ticket fare from hajj agencies during ticket booking in the next hajj season.
It asked the ministry to take necessary action against the culprits behind the anomalies in the process of hiring two aircraft from Egypt in 2014 by Biman Bangladesh, which remain out of order for a long time.
The committee also asked for the submission of a report over what steps taken over the anomalies following the findings by the parliamentary subcommittee during its probe.
According to the subcommittee report, placed before the committee on July 27 last, Biman Bangladesh Airlines Ltd incurred a loss of Tk 300 crore following the lease. If steps are not taken immediately, Biman will incur a further loss of Tk 56 crore, the report said.
