Police have asked all the expatriates, who returned to Bangladesh on March 1 onwards and are not staying in the addresses mentioned in their passports, to provide them present addresses and mobile numbers.
Through a press statement on Tuesday, Assistant Inspector General (Media) of Police Headquarters Md Sohel Rana requested the expatriates to contact their respective police stations for the purpose. Individuals, on behalf of the expatriates, can also do the same.
The new initiative has been taken as part of government efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus in the country.
The statement said police, as per the government instruction, are making door to door visits to the expatriates to know whether they are abiding by the rules of home quarantine.
But, most of them, who returned home on the above mentioned date, are not staying in their passport-mentioned addresses, it said.
“Rather, flouting the government directives, many of the expatriates are roaming around putting themselves and others in danger in the prevailing situation.”
The expatriates, who do not obey the new instruction, will face legal action under Communicable Diseases (Prevention, Control and Eradication) Act, 2018 and other provisions of law, the statement said, adding that if necessary, their passports will be revoked.
