The High Court (HC) on Tuesday ordered school authorities to refund excess amount of examination fees by January 20 realised from SSC examinees during ‘form fill-up’ last year.
A bench of the HC comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman passed the order.
The order says, “Education secretary and chairmen of 10 education boards will send notices to those schools authorities, who violated the government instruction.
“Otherwise, the existing school managing committees will be cancelled and the members of the committees will be barred from holding any position on such committees for next three years”, it says.
The heads 20 Dhaka schools appeared before the HC bench on that day. The court exempted them from their personal appearance.
On November 10 in 2014, the HC issued a suo moto rule on the government asking for explanation as to why the addition fees realised from the examinees should not be declared illegal. It also directed not to charge extra fees further.
Earlier, Dhaka Education Board (DEB) sent show-cause notices to 25 educational institutions to clarify within December 18 last year as to why they did not return additional fees.
Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, Ideal School and College, Residential School and College, Mirpur Bangla School and College, National Ideal School, Holicross School, Rajuk Uttara Model School and College, Cambrian School and College, Monipur High School, Siddheswari Girls High School and West and High School are among the 25 schools.
According to the Dhaka Education Board, most of the schools realised three to five times higher fees from the SSC candidates.
