Noted trade union leader Sahidullah Chowdhury has demanded the resumption of state-owned jute mills, claiming that the decision to close them was based on “misinformation”.He disclosed it at a press conference held in Chattogram Press Club auditorium on Saturday.The govt shut down about 25,000 workers in 28 state-owned jute mills in June last , citing continued losses.The press meet was told that these closed down jute mills may be started with the formula of public-private partnership (PPP) .
Sahidullah Chowdhury, convener of the Jute-Yarn and Textile Mill Workers-Employees Struggle Council, told the news conference that the government had announced the closure of jute mills at a time when demand for jute and jute products was increasing in the domestic and international markets.
Most of the allegations against state-owned jute mills have been based on misinformation and misconceptions, press meet said.
