Restriction on vehicles from today midnight

Staff Reporter :Alongside end of the campaigning, the government has imposed a ban on plying of all types of vehicle in the three city corporation areas of Dhaka and Chittagong from today (Monday) midnight to Tuesday midnight.The Road Transport and Highway Division issued a circular in this regard on Sunday. Deputy secretary Kamrul Ahsan confirmed the news. The vehicles include taxicab, ‘baby’ taxi, auto-rickshaw, microbus, jeep, pickup van, human hauler, private car, bus, truck, tempo, launch and speedboat. But the restriction will not be applicable for the candidates, law-enforcement agencies, administration, approved election observers and the election agents. Earlier, a restriction was imposed on motorcycle movement in the election areas for four days from Saturday midnight to Wednesday midnight.The campaign drums fell silent last midnight, 32 hours before the balloting of the much-awaited polls to the three city corporations. The candidates wrapped up their three weeks’ hectic election campaign before 12:00 am. The balloting will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. According to the Local Government (City Corporation) Election Rule of 2010, no one can call or join any rally, or can organise or attend any public rally or procession or showdown in the election areas 48 hours after the balloting.
