Respond digitally to applications: Nasrul to power utility bodies

Power utility bodies have to respond to consumers’ applications for power connections digitally, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said Sunday.
He gave the directive at a virtual meeting on digitisation in power sector. Nasrul also asked them to respond digitally to the complaints of consumers’ instantly and give them solutions online.
The meeting was also attended, among others, by Power Secretary Habibur Rahman, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Chairman Belayet Hossain, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) Chairman Major Gen (retd) Moin Uddin and Power Cell Director General Mohammad Hossain.
Nasrul Hamid observed that with the expansion of power sector, the responsibility of the power utility bodies has also increased.
“Consumers’ expectations also went up manyfold to get core service from the power sector,” the state minister said.
So, you have reach out the services to the doorsteps of the consumers as per the requirements, he added.
He advised the officials to work with professionalism to provide increased services to consumers and said that it will not be possible to ensure due services without professionalism.

He also urged them to ensure more accountability, transparency and competition among the power distribution companies to reach the consumers’ services.

Underscoring the need for enhancing cyber security at the power distribution system across the country, the state minister directed the officials to show visible progress by June this year.

“It’s the demand of the time to make the power supply system more consumer-friendly,” he said.

Top officials of the BPDB, BRED, Dhaka Power Supply Company Ltd (Desco), Dhaka Power Distribution Company Ltd (DPDC), Northern Electricity Supply Company Ltd (Nesco), West Zone Power Distribution Company (Ltd) explained the measures taken by their respective organisations about the cyber security and00 fire security protocols in different installations.
