The young generations must be saved from the fury of drug abuse along with rooting out of terrorism and militancy for continuation of smooth development in building a happy and prosperous nation.
Superintendent of Police of Rangpur Biplob Kumar Sarker said this at a rally against drug, terrorism and militancy held at Badarganj Government College auditorium in Badarganj upazila town here on Wednesday afternoon as the chief guest.
Teachers and students of Badarganj Government College, guardians, civil society members, leaders of different socio-cultural and religious organisations, professionals and local elite participated in the rally.
The event was arranged for creating social awareness about severe consequences of drug abuse and drug addiction to save the youths from ruining their future and rooting out terrorism and militancy.
Presided over by Principal of Badarganj Government College Mazed Ali Khan, Additional Superintendent of Police Fazle Elahi and Assistant Superintendent of Police (Circle-B) Maruf Ahmed addressed as special guests.
Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Badarganj Thana Arif Ali, Principal of Badarganj Mohila College Bimolendu Sarker, Acting Headmaster of Badarganj Multilateral High School Shamsul Haque, freedom fighter Aiyub Ali Sarker, student Taposhi Rabeya all spoke on the occasion.
The speakers discussed grievous impacts of drug abuse, terrorism and militancy and put importance on creating mass public awareness against drug, building a society free from these social curses.
The chief guest said the young generations and the society must be saved from the wrath of drug abuse that gradually generates fearful criminals destroying families and creating social threats.
“The message should be given to young generations about catastrophic consequences of generation-killer drug abuse, terrorism and militancy. They should also contribute wholeheartedly to the current pace of advancement in building a developed nation,” he said.
Good governance must in climate financing projects
Discussants at a views-exchange meeting called for ensuring good governance and transparency in climate change adaptation related projects to get better results.
They viewed this at the event on “Our role in establishing good governance in implementation of climate financing projects” held at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner here yesterday, a press release said.
Rangpur unit of ‘Sochetan Nagorik Committee (SNC)’ organised the event with the assistance of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).
Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan and Deputy Director (Local Government) Syed Farhad Hossain spoke with president of Rangpur unit of SNC Mosfeka Razzaque in the chair. SNC member Professor Mohammad Shah Alam moderated the function.
Rangpur Area Manager of TIB Alamgir Kabir made a presentation on “Transparency, accountability and public participation in climate financing and project implementation: Challenges and prospects”.
The speakers discussed about the impacts of climate change in Bangladesh, ways to save the rivers and canals of Rangpur region, identification of disaster risk-prone areas and climate financing.
They also discussed effective steps taken by the government in reducing climate change-related risks and vulnerability and successes achieved and fund deficit being faced by Bangladesh toward the direction of building a climate resilient country.
They called for evaluation of public opinion to maintain transparency in formulation and implementation of climate financing projects.
