Resignation of Momen demanded

Political parties have demanded arrest and resignation of Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen for his recent comment on seeking Indian government’s assistance to keep the incumbent government in power.
Upon this remark, the political parties including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) said that such remark was tantamount to sedition and it clearly manifest that the ruling Awami League is in trouble.
Urging the Foreign Minister to withdraw his comment, Gonoforum in a statement said, “The Foreign Minister should resign his post and beg apology for his comment. Otherwise, he should be arrested and brought under speedy trial for his sedition.” “His comment has hurt the spirit of the independence and the
sovereignty of Bangladesh. It is a seditious crime. The minister should be discharged of his duty and arrested. People of this country will never tolerate the undermining of the independence,” it added.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, “His speech clearly manifest that the ruling party has no support of the people. Such statement proves that there is no soil under the feet of Sheikh Hasina.”
“The Foreign Minister has divulged some truths unknowingly. Some days ago he has talked about the paradise. Now he is delivering speeches from the heaven. Lies cannot be delivered from there,” he added.
“Awami League government has lost everything. They have discarded the people and are now going to others to survive in power. They have lost their faces to stand before the people. This party has buried democracy, freedom of express and freedom of the media,” the BNP leader said.
“Their speeches prove that the independence and the sovereignty of the country have been weakened,” he asserted.
Islami Andolon Bangladesh Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim said, “Foreign Minister’s speech is a clear acknowledgement of selling country’s sovereignty. In an independent country, people have the full jurisdiction to decide who will be in power. The Constitution has empowered the people.”
“Foreign Minister has betrayed with the rights of the people. He has committed a crime of sedition. He should immediately be removed from the Cabinet and brought under justice for his crime,” he added.
BNP Standing Committee member Goyeswar Chandra said, “Foreign Minister’s comment clearly proves that Awami Leauge is in doubt whether India will keep them in power or not.”
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President ASM Abdur Rab said, “Today the independence and the sovereignty of the country are at stake. People are stunned for such comment. The ruling party is hatching a plot to survive in power by selling the hard-earned independence with the blood of the freedom fighters.”
Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna said, “His comment is unconstitutional and akin to sedition. This government has killed democracy and tarnished the image of the country in the world.”
“Such statement proves that this government has no friend and has made the country a State without friends. The ruling party is seeking foreign intervention for their survival in power,” he added.
