Reshuffles and transfers of officials in Barisal police created sensations in the city because it happened following the scam of ‘bribe-fund collection for promotion’ revealed by media and the matter still under departmental investigation.
Barisal Metropolitan Police sources said a letter (vide memo no. 44.00.0000. 094. 04. 073. 13(part)-768) signed by ASM Imdadud Dastagir, joint secretary of home ministry, on August 30, 2015, reached hear on Monday.
In that letter it was said that 14 high ranking police officials of different areas has been transferred and posted in different posts for public interest.
Among them Shoibal Kanti Chowdhury, Barisal Metropolitan Police Commissioner, has been transferred to police headquarter at Dhaka as deputy inspector general of police (current responsibility).
Shoibal Kanti would be replaced in Barisal by Luthfar Rahman Mandal, DIG (current responsibility) of police headquarter.
Besides Shoyeb Ahmed, deputy commissioner (headquarter) of BMP also transferred as police superintendent of industrial police.
Recently returned from foreign mission Habibur Rahman Khan has been asked to join as deputy commissioner of BMP.
Shahidullah Chowdhury, Commandant Range Reserve Force (RRF) at Barisal asked to join as commandant (police super) armed police battalion (APBN) in Khulna.
On other hand, Harun-or-Rashid, Commandant , APBN in Khulna has been asked to replace Shahidullah Chowdhury, commandant (police super) RRF at Barisal.
After contact with ASM Imdadud Dastagir, Joint Secretary of Home Ministry, over phone, he claimed that it was part of regular transfer procedure of Bangladesh Police and not connected with any scam allegation.
Mentionable eleven police personal including a deputy commissioner of BMP have been suspended and attached over the scam of collecting bribe-fund for promotion in service on July 2015.
The suspended rest 10 policemen included assistant sub-inspector Nayek, driver, ration store keeper, DB constables.
Barisal Metropolitan Police authourity reshuffled an internal five-member probe committee led by Abu Saleh Md. Raihan, Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) of BMP July 13.
However this committee also yet not submitted their report.
One high official of BMP on condition of anonymity said earlier also per head Tk 5-10 thousand collected unofficially for enlisting and moving promotion-file and it was an open secret in the country.
In the meantime total Tk 67 lakhs allegedly collected under bribe-fund to get promotions of the personals to different ranks of BMP, have been recovered.
