Scientists and experts called for more research and innovation in biometrics and biostatistics for attaining success in agriculture, health and environment sector.
They opined that the possible success will help the government to achieve the sustainable development goals by 2030.
They made the observation recently while addressing the inaugural session of a four-day international seminar titled “Biometrics and Biostatistics for Agriculture, Health and Environment” in Rajshahai University (RU). Department of Statistics and Bioinformatics Research Group of RU jointly organized the seminar.

More than 400 researchers, scientists and academics
concerned from both home and abroad joined the programme.
Some 238 research papers are likely to present there, the sources
concerned said.
Main thrust of the event is to highlight inter-disciplinary communication
among biological, statistical and computer sciences.
It will help increasing the participation of researchers in the field of
Biostatistics and Bioinformatics to modernize agriculture, health and
environment research.
With RU Vice-chancellor Prof Mijanuddin in the chair, Member of
Bangladesh University Grants Commission Prof Yousuf Ali Mollah, Executive
Director of Bangladesh Centre for Advance Studies Dr Atique Rahman, RU Pro-VC
Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan and Director of Higher Education Quality
Enhancement Project Dr Gouranga Chandra Mohanta and Senior Officer of World
Bank Dr Mukhlesur Rahman addressed the inaugural session.
Prof Mijanuddin expects the conference will concentrate on the new and
evolving roles of bioinformatics and biostatistics for agriculture, health
and environment which require multidisciplinary efforts.
The event will create opportunity for young researchers to gain an
understanding of the importance and potential impact of statistical and
computational methodology in the field of biological science, he added.
