Research-based teaching vital for quality edn

Speakers at a seminar on Monday emphasised on ‘research-based teaching and learning system’ is essential for ensuring quality education at the tertiary level in the country.
“Best practices of teaching and learning at higher education level can cope with the world standard education in the 21st century,” they said.
These were stressed by the speakers at a seminar titled ‘Best Practices of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education through Research’ at University Grants Commission (UGC) auditorium on Monday.
The UGC and Australian Macquarie University jointly organised the programme.
UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan presided over the seminar while Second Secretary of Australian High Commission in Dhaka Fédéric Jeanjean, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Macquarie University Professor Sherman Young, addressed the programme, among others.
UGC Member Professor Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah moderated the function while Senior Lecturer of Macquarie University Dr Julian Droogan presented the keynote paper.
UGC Members– Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Dr Md. Akhtar Hossain, Dr M Shah Nowaz Ali, UGC Secretary Dr Md. Khaled, Deans of different universities, high officials from UGC and Macquarie University were present, among others, at the programme.
Professor Abdul Mannan said the higher education has to be infused with quality education so that students can survive the global competition. “Best practices of teaching and learning could play key role in enhancing quality at tertiary level education,” he added.
Fédéric Jeanjean said that MoU, recently signed between UGC and Macquarie University would help build and develop academic and research collaboration between these two institutions.
