United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative in Bangladesh Dr. Asa Torkelsson paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman on Tuesday at DU.
Chairman of the Department of Population Sciences of DU Professor Dr. Mohammad Mainul Islam and Prof. Dr. Md. Aminul Haque were present on this occasion at Vice-Chancellor’s office on the campus.
During the meeting they stressed the need for strengthening ongoing joint collaborative academic and research programs on maternal health, reproductive health, gender equality, prevention of gender-based violence and child marriage being conducted by the University of Dhaka and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
They also discussed the possibilities of joint research programs on aging and unprivileged people of Bangladesh to ensure security in their family and social lives.
The VC sought cooperation from UNFPA Representative to promote Population Sciences Department at DU. UNFPA Representative assured the VC of providing all possible support and cooperation in this regard.
The VC also thanked the guest for her visit to DU and hoped that the relationship between Dhaka University and UNFPA would be strengthened further
in the days to come.
