Reporting workshop in Sylhet ends

A 3-day training workshop on investigative reporting was concluded in Sylhet on the initiative of Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) on Wednesday. At the end of the training, certificates were given to the trainee journalists.
Earlier, PIB Director (Administration, Studies and Training) Mohammad Afrazur Rahman chaired the seminar.
Sylhet District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Farid Uddin PPM addressed the meeting as the Chief Guest under the chairmanship of PIB Training Assistant Barek Kaiser. Mahi Uddin Selim, General Secretary of Sylhet District Sports Association and Al Azad, President of Sylhet District Press Club spoke as special guests.
At the end of the speech, the guests handed over the certificates to the trainee journalists.
The three-day training workshop was held on Sunday (December 20) morning in the conference room of Sylhet District Sports Association at Rikabibazar in the city with 35 journalists working in various print and electronic media in Sylhet. The first two days were coached by New York Times stringer Zulfiqar Ali Manik.
Trainee journalists were impressed by his lively discussions.
On the last day (Monday), PIB Director Mohammad Afrazur Rahman and Rajshahi University Assistant Professor of Mass Communication and Journalism Mamun Abdul Qayyum imparted training in two sessions.
The definition, nature and characteristics of investigative reporting, different types and variants of investigative reporting, differences between investigative and depth reporting, techniques and methods of collecting information for investigative reporting, reporter preparation for investigative reporting, requirements for investigative reporting and its impact on society. Restrictions and do’s and don’ts of information gathering in investigative reporting, areas of investigative reporting – development, economics and crime, journalism policy, law and code of conduct, RTI law and investigative journalism, investigative report writing techniques, use of sources in investigative reporting and language of media and The trainers talked a lot about the past and present of journalism.
