The repairing works of the broken embankment (under Poldar No.35/1) at Gabtala within Southkhali Union under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district started on Monday morning.
High officials of the Water Development Board visited the place of occurrence on the same day at noon.
Shyamal Dtta, local (field) Engineer of the embankment project told the, repairing works of the broken embankment started on Monday morning. But for want of solid mud the repairing work of the embankment is being hampered to some extent. He added, it is expected that within 3/4 days the repairing works of the broken point of the embankment will be completed and consequently, the river water cannot enter within the embankment. He further added, Md. Siddiqur Rahman, Chief Engineer of the Water Development Board, Khulna Region and Md. Abul Hossain, Superintendent Engineer of the Board, Khulna Circle visited the broken embankment at Gabtala point and directed the all concerned to do the needful to repair the embankment immediately.
Md. Mamun, an inhabitant of Gabtala village disclosed, on Monday noon the onrush water of the mighty river Baleswar entered the adjacent areas from Gabtala broken point of the embankment.
