Educationists and development activists addressing a youth conference opined substantial and sustainable protection of environment and natural resources together with promotion and using of renewable energies is very important for protecting both climate and life.
They viewed there is an enormous scope of reducing the gradually mounting pressure on fossil fuel through boosting use of renewable energies in both rural and urban areas. Time has come to protect the natural resources including the wetlands and water bodies for restoring green atmosphere.
They came up with the observation yesterday while inaugurating a daylong youth campaign for protection of renewable energies and environment at Rajshahi College campus.
Bangladesh Resource Center for Indigenous Knowledge (BARCIK), a collective initiative for participatory research, policy advocacy and campaign, and Barind Education Culture and Diversity Protection Centre (BECDPC) jointly organized the campaign.
On the occasion, many new members for BECDPC were collected. Main thrust of the campaign was to inspiring and sensitizing the youths towards promoting and protecting the renewable energies.
Rajshahi College Principal Professor Habibur Rahman attended and addressed the opening session as chief guest. BARCIK Barind Regional Coordinator Shahidul Islam, BECDPC President Zawad Ahmed, General Secretary Uzzal Hossain and executive members Jarina Khatun, Afifa Tazrin, Afifa Tasnim and Abdus Sobhan also spoke.
During his concept paper presentation, Shahidul Islam mentioned instead of depending on only the fossil fuel emphasis should be given to enriching the renewable energy sources to face the energy challenges.
Availability of energy from different sources is vital for the present life in meeting the challenge of the ever-increasing demand for energy.
