General students of Shahjalal University for Science and Technology (SUST) on Thursday issued an ultimatum to remove the Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Aminul Haque Bhuiyan by tomorrow (Saturday).
If the VC Aminul Haque Bhuiyan is not removed by Saturday, they will go for tough movement, the students warned.
Under the banner of general students, they took out procession on the campus and staged demonstration in front of the central library, demanding immediate removal of the VC.
Meanwhile, a section of teachers of the university under the banner of Mohan Muktijuddher Chetonay Udbuddho Shikkhak Parishad continued their three-hour work abstention programme for the third consecutive day yesterday protesting the attack on some teachers by BCL men and demanding removal of its VC. They brought out a procession from the teachers’ canteen around and held a protest rally on the campus.
Besides, the heads of all departments of the university strongly condemned the attack on the teachers, and also observed a two-hour work abstention from 9am to 11am on Thursday. On September 1, the SUST authorities suspended four students on charge of their involvement in assaulting teachers on the campus and the BCL central committee suspended another three leaders of SUST unit of BCL in this connection. Earlier on August 30, at least nine teachers were injured in an attack carried out on them by the BCL activists when they were staging demonstration under the banner of Mohan Muktijuddher Chetonay Udbuddho Shikkhak Parishad, demanding the resignation of the VC.
