Different left leaning student organisations brought out processions on the DU campus on Sunday demanding removal of DU Proctor Professor AM Amzad for his irresponsible role over sexual assault on Pahela Baishakh.
Some teachers and students of Physics Department of DU wearing black badge formed a human chain in front of the Dowel Chattar yesterday morning. They condemned the heinous incidents on the day. Led by Professor Kamrul Hasan of the department about one hundred students joined the human chain.
Somajtantrik Chhatra Front (SCF) DU unit yesterday brought out a procession from in front of the Modhu’s Canteen at 11am and ended it at the base of Aparajeyo Bangla after parading different roads of the university.
SCF DU unit President Rashed Shahriar blamed the DU authorities and the police and said that they have failed to protect the honour of the women on the campus.
He said that the ‘silent role’ of the DU authorities had proved that the authorities did not take the incident seriously. The leaders of SCF demanded immediate removal of DU proctor.
Bangladesh Chhatra Federation held a rally in front of the DUCSU on the campus protesting the women assault on DU, JU and JnU campus during the Pahela Baishakh celebration.
A faction of the Somajtantrik Chhatra Front also brought out a procession. Starting from in front of the main gate of the Central Library the procession passed through different roads of the university. Later, they held a rally. Somajtantrik Chhatra Front President Jonardon Datta Nantu said women are being tortured not only at home or workplaces, but also harassed frequently on the higher educational institutions. But the authorities of the universities failed to take any action against those who were involved in sexual harassment’ incidents.
The teachers and students of SUST yesterday held a human chain in front of the Central Library under the banner of “Sorbostorer Shikkhak Shikkharthi” protesting recent women assaults in different public universities.
Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department Chairman Professor Zafar Iqbal, Professor Yasmin Haque of Physics Department, Professor Kabir Hossain of Statistics Department, Professor Akhtarul Alam of Chemical Engineering and Polymer Science Department, Associate Professor Farzana Siddique of Bengali Department and Payel Barua of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department spoke the human chain, among others.
About two hundreds students from different departments attended the human chain.
Professor Zafar Iqbal said, “It was an undesirable incident. I have no word to express it. The government should arrest and give exemplary punishment to the culprits immediately.
