Remove Murad’s obscene audio, video clips:HC

The High Court on Tuesday ordered the chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove the obscene audio and video clips of former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Dr Md Murad Hassan, from all social media and online platforms, including YouTube and Facebook within 24 hours.
The High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman brought the matter to the attention of the court.
Barrister Suman later said, “The court asked the BTRC chairman to remove the obscene audio and video clips of Dr Murad Hassan from the social media within 24 hours. The related deputy attorney general has been asked to report what action the BTRC has taken according to the court order by Wednesday morning.”
The lawyer also said, “These audio and video clips are causing social degradation. These are obscene. If these audio and video clips continue on social media, the society will be ruined. These will affect our children. These will hurt people mentally. That is why I came to the court and sought direction to remove the audio and video clips from the social media.”
After hearing me and the deputy attorney general, the High Court orally passed order, added the lawyer.
Barrister Suman appeared in the hearing in support of his appeal, while deputy attorney general Bepul Bagmar represented the state.
Meanwhile, Dr Murad resigned from his post on Tuesday at the command of the Prime Minister in the face of widespread criticism over the leaked audio and video clips though he citing ‘personal reasons’ in the letter.
