Remove commercial establishments from residential areas: JS body

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Land Ministry on Sunday suggested the government to continue the eviction drive against commercial establishments in the capital’s residential areas.
 The committee at its 17th meeting came up with the recommendation to remove commercial establishments from the residential areas which are under the control of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk).
The meeting was held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with committee chairman Md Dabirul Islam in the chair, said a Parliament Secretariat handout. The parliamentary watchdog also suggested the government to prepare a time-befitting policy for plots, flats allotments under all the projects taken by Rajuk and the National Housing Authority (NHA). It asked Rajuk and NHA to follow international construction standards considering Bangladesh soils, the trend of earthquake, environment and population density.
In case of implementing any project, the authorities were asked to rehabilitate affected land owners first.
The parliamentary body also recommended the government to construct a tunnel for communication between Nam Bhaban, located beside Manik Mia Avenue, and the Parliament complex.
It also suggested installment of close circuit cameras in MP Bhabans on priority basis.
