Remodelling your home budget

Remodelling your home needn’t always be expensive. And you can recreate your home in a stunning way without expensive or ‘hard’ resets. Just a brush stroke here and a frill there can liven up the space. Start small but think colour, nature, organic. Here are eight design ‘shifts’.
1 Paint the rooms in different colours to add character to every nook and corner. It’s smart to go with blues, greens – cool colours in bedrooms to ensure a relaxed frame of mind.
2 Don’t follow rules. Play with colours and styles to create a pastiche of interesting installation.
Today’s design mantra is to go with the heart and break rules that you’ve been strait jacketed into by designers and architectural books. Let your personality shine through your home.
3 Use rugs and kilims, and wooden floorings where the original flooring is an eyesore. Wooden
flooring is easy to install, relatively inexpensive and light to look at.
It is not permanent and is an immediate facelift.
4 Metallic finishes on some furniture gives a gloss to your space. They also last longer and look chic. Some gold accents and accessories with a combination of matte and shiny can sparkle up a room.
5 Red ‘pops’ spell chutzpah! It is inherently festive and combined with a ‘haldi’ tinge is magnificently Indian and celebratory. Add an ottoman or a single sofa in bold fuchsia and voila, you get instant drama in your room.
6 Dramatic lighting always pushes up the design ante. Japanese and Chinese paper lanterns clustered together can be your show-stopper, and they don’t cost much.
Lamps, floor lighting and reflected ceiling lighting features that can be moved often freshens up the look of your home. Bring your favourite big tree into your living room and dress it up with glass lanterns.
7 Mirrors, paintings or art prints, colourful blinds give the space character and colour.

8 Small touches can alter the entire look. Add a few candles in strategic locations – not too obvious but enough to add atmosphere.
Floating candles in large glass bowls with some rose petals sprinkled on the surface of the water…
It won’t cost much and gives an exotic feel.
Happy decorating!
