remittances picked up in March

After a slight fall in February, the inflow of remittances picked up again as the expatriate Bangladeshis sent home US$1,332.40 million in March, which is 12 percent or $142.80 million higher than the month of February this year.
The country received a total $1,189.60 million worth of remittance in February.
According to the latest data of Bangladesh Bank (BB), expatriates sent $11,252.40 million during the nine months of the current fiscal 2014-15, which is $757.20 million higher than the same period of the last fiscal’s $10,495.20 million.
In March, the state-owned four commercial banks combine carried remittance of $435.29 million, private commercial banks $864.17 million while $17.17 million was injected through four specialized banks and $15.88 million by nine foreign commercial banks.
Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd channeled the highest $339.68 million remittance, followed by state-owned Sonali Bank, which brought $142.02 million.
