BSS, Dhaka :
Remittance inflow to the country rebounded in September, with 2.64 percent rise over the amount that the expatriate Bangladeshis sent home in August.
With the increased inflow in September, the country received a total of $3.97 billion in remittance in the first quarter (Q1) of the current 2015-16 financial year (FY16). Last year, total remittance inflow for Q1 was $4.01 billion.
Bangladesh Bank (BB) data released Sunday showed that the country received $1.22 billion till September 25, which was 2.64 percent up over $1.19 billion of August.
The remittance in August fell from July’s $1.38 billion, but the inflow started rising in September, with overseas Bangladeshi people sending home more money for Eid-ul-Azha.
The remittance in September would go up further when the total data for September would be available, said a BB official.
The higher remittance inflow pushed the foreign exchange reserve to a new high at $26.22 billion on September 22, marking a rise by $45 million over $26.17 billion reserve on August 31 this year.
Earlier on August 17 the foreign exchange reserve crossed $26 billion mark for first time in the country’s history. The current reserve is the second highest among the countries in SAARC region, according to the latest data of Bangladesh Bank (BB).
