Remembering my respected school teachers

Faruque Ahmed :
It needs to be mentioned that he was then seriously ailing with so many health complications and became blind and could not see anything. While I introduced myself with my name only, he instantly could pronounce my father’s name telling the name of my village as well. Surprisingly enough, he could even tell me the year I passed the SSC exam from Sarail Annada High school. I was surprised and stunned to see his sharp memory that he would possess at this old age with lot of health related complications. This is unmatched and never in my whole life could see a teacher of this height. Tears rolled down my eyes to find my respected teacher’s talent and extraordinary sharp memory. My teacher Mr Hemendra Chandra Roy had in his heart, love and affection for me in view of my deep interest in learning English. I respectfully acknowledge my indebtedness to him for whatever small and insignificant thing I have by now accomplished in English. In this connection, I can mention here that our school had a wide name and fame for an excellent institution for English learning in greater Comilla district. My seniors and my contemporary students of this school, I believe, will testify my statement.
In our time, our high school was also famous for rich cultural and sporting attainments. One of the senior students of our school Farhad Rahman (Makki Bhai-Rtd. Additional Secretary to the Govt) was awarded gold medal for his extraordinary melodious performance in classical music competition in the then East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) securing first position. His name and fame spread over the whole country as a student of this school. In this connection I would like to respectfully remember and mention few of my favourite teachers in my high school. They are – Mr Amulla Nandi, Mr Abdul Karim, Mr Asaduddin Thakur, Moulana Mohammad Siddiqullah, Moulana Mohammad Jamaluddin, Mr Mobarak Ali, Mr Ramoj Ali. All of them were successful and highly talented and reputed teachers during my study in my high school. Special mention I would like to make of my teacher, Assistant Head Master of our School Mr Amulla Nandi. He was gorgeous, sophisticated, and a teacher of high taste in his whole life. His proficiency in English was highly acclaimed and it went far away of his being a gifted and accomplished teacher. He was one of the best English teachers I have ever seen in my whole life time. While he used to enter in the class, we all the boys and girls would pay special attention to him for his exuberance, high taste and above all for deep knowledge in English grammar and language. We wondered to see how much knowledge he possessed in English. I would like to pay my highest respect for this brilliant teacher. He would like me for my interest in English and always I could submit the class exercise/home work as per his wish and requirement. This would facilitate to earn his attention and affection for me. I would like to mention another amazing and interesting experience for me to remember that my respected religious teacher Moulana Siddiqullah could very successfully take up English class on few occasions while I was a student of Class VI in the school. He was a gifted and talented teacher of his time. Each and every teacher I have noted above had his mission and vision so far it relates to imparting lessons to the students.
I would like to close my write-up with an amazing and memorable story I experienced few years back. A story of high satisfaction and divine pleasure I derived. I could gather from a reliable source that one of my favourite teacher is staying within one kilometer to my residence at West Rampura (Mohanagar Housing Project). It is a rare fortune to find my beloved teacher Mr Asaduddin Thakur. I did not waste time to visit his son’s residence at Banasree, Rampura, Dhaka alongwith my elder daughter where he was staying then. It was a moment that I will never forget. We both (father and daughter) paid our respect touching his feet with our hands (a custom followed by the younger to the respected persons).
My teacher Mr Asaduddin Thakur, a handsome man, now presumably at his eighties was extremely happy to see me with my daughter. I respectfully invited him with his family to my residence and he very kindly accepted it.
On his arrival on the fixed date to our residence, it was a day with a difference. Every member of my family came to say respect to him. It was really a rare occasion that will be remembered for long time. We the members of our family spent few hours with my favourite teacher, a memorable event that I will never forget.
Teacher student relationship is a divine thing. In our boyhood, we used to believe by heart that the teachers to be honoured and respected and in this process students have to be enriched with knowledge, wisdom and above all a quality to be owned to become a good human being.
