Court Correspondent :
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday (Wednesday) morning rejected the bail petitions of BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in three cases lodged against
him on charge of sabotage. The court also rejected 30 days’ remand pleas of police for interrogating him in the cases.
However, the court allowed police to hold the questioning session at the jail gate within May 23. Magistrate Ashok Kumar Dutta of the CMM Court issued the orders in the morning after hearing.
Earlier, on May 17, Mirza Fakhrul’s lawyer filed a petition seeking hearing on his bail petitions while the court fixed May 20 for hearing in his presence. He was brought to the court in the morning from the Kashmimpur Jail. Lawyers Borhan Ahmed and Masud Ahmed conducted the hearing on behalf of Mirza Fakhrul while Tapash Kumar Paul represented the prosecution.
On January 6, police arrested Fakhrul after he came out of the Jatiya Press Club. On January 7, he was placed on a ten-day remand and that was later rejected.
Later, on January 27, he was put on a three-day remand in one case and on a five-day remand in another case on February 3. At last, on February 9, the prosecution wanted to place Mirza Fakhrul on remand while the court rejected the prayer and directed the police to quiz him at the jail gate. He was, however, not produced to the court in any case.
