The government will start relocating Rohingyas to Bhashanhar by April 15, State MinisterforDisaster Management and Relief Dr Enamur Rahman said on Sunday.
“Some 23,000 Rohingya families, approximately around one lakh people, will be shifted there,” Enamur said while talking to reporters after holding a meeting with US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl Robert Miller at the secretariat in the afternoon.
Houses are being built there with water and electricity facilities for Rohingya people in addition to ensuring proper sanitation, he said adding that centres for shelter will also be set up.
About the support received from the United States, Dr Enamur said the US contributed $ 45.5 million to the UN World Food Program in support of the Rohingya crisis.
This is in addition to the $60 million announced at the 2019 UN Joint Response Plan (JRP) launch in Geneva on February 15.
