Disaster Risk Management (DRM), phase-2 project funded by Swiss Red Cross, stood beside the 2,722 flood victims of eleven unions of three upazilas and distributed relief materials among them.
According to sources the devastating flood hit different unions of four upazilas,Sundarganj, Sadar, Fulchhari and Shaghata, of the district this year creating untold sufferings of the flood affected people.
DRM project which is being implemented at Mollarchar, Kamarjani and Gidari unions under Sadar upazila, Gozaria, Fulchari, Fazlupur, Urya and Ernendabari unions under Fulchhari upazila and Holdia and Ghuridaha unions under Shaghata upazila in partnership with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) also stood beside the 2,722 flood victims of the unions including Shaghata and distributed the relief materials to them.
Each of the beneficiaries received a packet of food items including 15-kg rice, 2-kg pulse, one litre oil, one kg suzi, one kg salt, one kg sugar and 10 packets oral saline, said M. Khurshid Alam, an official of DRM project.
Apart from this, as many as 1,100 flood affected cattle farmers of the unions of the upazilas got cattle fodder from the DRM project during the period, he said adding that all the 1,100 farmers each received 10 kg of Bhusi from the project.
Earlier, zila parishad chairman and also chairman of BDRCS district unit Ataur Rahman Ata formally inaugurated the relief distribution activity to the beneficiaries in a function held on the premises of Kamarjani UP of Sadar upazila on August 26 as the chief guest.
Director of BDRCS Sirajul Islam Mollah, Secretary of the unit Rezaul Karim Reza, manager, DRR, Swiss Red Cross Tuhin Samaddar, DRM project manager Golam Mostafa, UP Chairman Abdus Salam Zakir and journalists were present on the occasion.

DUTA
Another reports says: Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) today distributed relief materials among 200 flood affected families of Bharatkhali union of Shaghata upazila of the district.
Local sources said more than 50 unions including Bharatkhali were flooded recently creating untold sufferings of the people.
To mitigate their sufferings, the DUTA has stood beside the flood victims of Bharatkhali union as part its of social corporate responsibility and distributed relief materials to them this morning.
A simple function was also held on the premises of the union parishad (UP) office with UP Chairman Shamsul Azad Shital in the chair.
DUTA member Md. Mahidul Haque Prodhan formally distributed the packets of relief materials to the flood victims.
Each of the relief packets contained rice, lentil, soya bean oil, salt, shemai, sugar, candle, firebox, biscuit, oral saline and medicine, said the UP chairman.
As part of the programme, the DUTA will distribute relief materials among 100 flood affected families of Rasulpur union of Sadullapur upazila on Thursday.
The people from all walks of life thanked the DUTA for standing beside the flood victims.
BSS from Joypurhat adds: – A day-long medical camp was set up at Atpara BOP area of BGB-20 Battalion of the district to provide treatment for the poor patients free of cost on Tuesday.
The camp was organised by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
Commander of BGB-20 Battalion Lt Col. Mohammad Anisul Haque inaugurated the camp.
A total of 500 poor patients of different areas of the district received medicines and treatment.
A Correspondent from Habiganj adds: Relief materials were distributed by the Lions Club of Habiganj and Dhaka Regency in Kalarduba of Baniyachong Habiganj recently.
 This programme was presided over by President Ln. Adv. S M Ali Asgar and directed by Secretary Ln. Md. Jalal Uddin.
