Release of BNP- backed Babuganj UZ chairman candidate demanded

Local people of Babuganj upazila on Friday noon blocking roads, forming human chain and holding rally demanded immediate release of the arrested BNP- backed upazila chairman candidate and his younger brother local UP chairman.
 A Barisal court on Thursday rejecting bail prayer ordered Sultan Ahmed Khan, incumbent upazila chairman and chairman candidate the upcoming UZP election of March 15, three-time winner union parishad chairman and former upazila president of BNP, and his younger brother Wahidul Islam Khan, Madhavpasha UP chairman and with 9 other BNP activists of Babuganj upazila to send to jail for political violence.
 The agitation programmes were held at Madhavpasha by the side of Barisal-Banaripara-Swarupkathi Roads.
Among others Md. Ali Beg, UP Member, Ayesha Siddika Iva, daughter , Sharfuddin Ahmed Shoyeb, son of Sultan Ahmed Khan, Kazi Nazrul Islam Miron, Abul Hossain Mia, Shamsul Huq Jamaddar,Altaf Hossain, Shamim Talukdar, Motaleb Hossain, Anwar Hossain, Kazi Belayet, BNP leaders and activists, Dulal Chandra Saha, Anwar Hossain Hemayet, Yusuf Hossain Mastar, JCD leaders, addressed the programme.
 The speakers alleged that after granting ad-interim bail from High Court, sending jail by lower court following surrender for extending bail proves the conspiracy of ruling party for wining in the 3rd round of UZP election in Babuganj upazila election by vote rigging.
 The speakers called the people to give vote and resist wining of any candidate by rigging in absence of the arrested candidate. They cautioned starting of hard movement if the arrested candidate, leaders and activists would not be freed immediately.
Dulal Talukdar, returning and district election officer Barisal, told there was no barrier against the arrest of candidates or activists accused in specified cases and rejecting bail prayer was under jurisdiction of the court.
 Sub Inspector Mainul Islam of Barisal Airport police station, lodging a case on January 7, 2014 against the accused alleged that they cutting roads near Madhavpasha Bridge at Barisal-Banaripara Road under Barisal Airport police station of Babuganj upazila on early January 5, 2014 disrupting communications in the area tried to foil the 10th national assembly election.
 
The accused surrendering before the court on Thursday appealed for extending their bail earlier approved by High Court.
 
Rafikul Islam, magistrate of the court, rejecting the extension of bail prayer ordered to send the surrendered 11 accused to jail.
