Business Desk :
The news has published on dated 22 March 2015 in your daily about Bt Brinjal but Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) authority did not agree with this report. We think, the news is totally partial and worthless. It’s not fair to publish any news without relevant authority concern. After a long experiment and based on the findings BARI authority released Bt Brinjal. All experimental reports have been kept preserved at BARI. Before reporting, any reporter should discuss with relevant scientists. Some farmers are affected for their won problem such as wrong cultivation process, Bacterial wilt etc. BARI authority can’t get these liability.
The real scenario of the farmers are given below.
About 70% plants of Md Munnaf and 15% plants of Md. Biltu Miah at Pauli village in Manikgonj died due to bacterial wilt .It was fruiting stage of the plants. This was not a problem of Bt technology. The remaining three farmers of Manikgonj are free from bacterial wilt problem. Untill 22-03-2015 Md. Afzal Hossain, Md Biltu Miah and Abul Hossain at Pauli village harvested 235 kg, 172 kg and 501 kg Bt brinjal respectively from 20, 17 and 18 decimal land area. Another farmer Md. Babul Miah at Bandutia village in Manikgonj harvested 784 kg Bt brinjal from 24 decinal of land. At Comilla, Bt brinjal plots of Md. Ali and Dilip Kumar was affected and all the seedlings died due to heavy shower during November. After dieing of first planting seedlings, replanting was done. As on 22-03-2015, Dilip Kumar had 1001 plants in 22 decilmal land and Md. Ali had 315 plants in 10 decimal land which produced 182 and 22 kg Bt brinjal respectively. Md. Harun Mirza had 424 plants in 18 decimal land and harvested 193 kg Bt brinjal until 22-03-2015. Md. Abu Hayet of Narsingdi planted 380 seedlings in 14 decimal land but about 45% plants died due to bacterial wilt. Though 515 kg brinjal was harvested until 22-03-2015. It is to be mentioned here that harvesting of brinjal would be continued for the next 30-60 days.
Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) planted Bt brinjal among 108 farmers plot of 17 districts across the country in rabi 2014-15 season. No shoot and fruit borer is seen in the BARI Bt brinjal varieties. The non-Bt brinjal varieties had severe infection of shoot and fruit borer which requires 60-180 times spraying of insecticides which is harmful for human and environment. Only 12 farmers plot out of 108, affected in different degrees by bacterial wilt and other insect and pest. The success story of remaining 96 farmers was ignored in this report.
