Chattogram Bureau :

The Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) has demanded that the registration cost of the housing sector, which contributes about 15 per cent to the national growth, be reduced to 7-8 per cent. Abdul Quyyum Chowdhury, Vice President of REHAB and Chairman of Chittagong Regional Committee, made the proposal at a press conference on the occasion of Chittagong Rehab Fair on Tuesday.
He told a news conference that the housing sector was going through a crisis due to some policy-making problems. However, this crisis is slowly turning around. The stagnation in the sector has eased since the introduction of 5 per cent interest home loans with subsidies for government employees.
A few days ago, the registration cost of this sector has been reduced by 2 percent. Rehab is working hard to reduce the registration cost by 4 percent. Besides, last month, Bangladesh Bank issued a notification to provide home loan up to a maximum of Tk 2 cr for the purchase of flats, which was earlier up to 1.2 cr.
The lack of long-term credit for all citizens and the high rate of bank loans are major obstacles in this sector. By reducing the cost of registration in the housing industry, which contributes about 15 per cent to the national growth, to 6/7 per cent, the sector can actually contribute more to the economy. Under the slogan ‘Dreamy Housing Green Country, Red Green Bangladesh’,
71 stalls of various organizations are getting space at the four-day REHAB Chittagong Fair-2021 starting from Thursday (November 18) at Hotel Radisson Blu in the city.
Several linkage companies, including financial institutions and building materials, have been given the opportunity to participate in the fair.
