The registration time for Joy Bangla Youth Award 2017 has been extended to August 19. The announcement was made at a daylong activation event held at the Dhaka University (DU) campus recently by ‘Young Bangla’, a platform for young achievers, which offers this award.
Young Bangla earlier fixed the last date for registration for this year’s award at July 31. The time, however, has been extended so more young change-makers participate in it.
The Prime Minister’s ICT Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy will distribute the award in October.
The award is given for outstanding work at the community level in areas of promoting youth employability, ending violence against women, child and adult education, and cultural activities.
Youths aged between 18 years and 35 years can now apply online from the Young Bangla website (http: youngbangla.org/member) or can call 09612009922 for details.
Thirty individuals and organisations were awarded in the first edition of the award introduced last year when over 1,500 participants were registered.
The activation event at the DU followed an array of similar events took place at eight divisional headquarters in the country in the last two months focusing on reaching out the real change-makers working at the grassroots across the country. A good number of university students showed their interest in taking part at the event for registration.
Four booths were set up around TSC area for the registration while documentaries on the first edition awardees were also screened at the TSC auditorium. Leaflets and posters were also distributed among the students came at the stalls.
State minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak and Executive director of Center for Research and Information (CRI) Sabbir Bin Shams attended the event with five awardees from the first segment of the award.
‘Young Bangla’ was launched in 2014 to involve youths in development process and bring up their ideas to policymakers. CRI works as the secretariat of YB.
