Staff Reporter :
The High Court (HC) on Sunday directed the Election Commission to register Trinomul BNP led by former Minister Nazmul Huda as a political party.
The Bench of Justice Tariq ul Hakim and Justice Md Shohrowardi passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Nazmul Huda.
The former BNP leader submitted the petition to the High Court in August this year challenging a decision of the Election
Commission that rejected an application filed by Nazmul Huda seeking registration of his party.
The EC on June 14 this year rejected the application saying that the application and Chalan for the registration were not submitted in time.
The HC on August 14 following the writ petition issued a rule asking the Election Commission to explain as to why it should not be directed to register the Trinomul BNP led by Nazmul Huda as a political party.
After holding hearing of the rule, the court delivered the verdict yesterday.
Former BNP leader Nazmul Huda announced the formation of the new political party named Trinomul BNP (Grassroot BNP) on November 20, 2015.
The former BNP Vice-Chairman made an announcement through a press conference held in a city hotel on the day, and in a written statement, he declared himself as the Convener of the new political party.
