A three-day regional Iztima has started through opening speech by Mufti Abdul Bareq, imam, Kakrail Mosque, Dhaka on Thursday.
Several thousand Muslim devotees have already taken shelter on the Iztima ground at New Town. A total of 2,000 policemen were deployed there for ensuring security of the devotees, said Salahuddin Sikder, additional superintendent of police.
The organisers said several tents with medical camps, bathrooms, toilets and tube wells were set up at the Iztima venue.
