Reformist leader Rashed on remand

The Metropolitan Magistrate Court (MMC) of Dhaka yesterday placed Rashed Khan, Joint Convener of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, on a five-day remand in a case filed under Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Magistrate Raihan Ul Islam of the CMM Court passed the remand order after Sub-Inspector (SI) of Detectives Branch (DB) of police Sajibuzzaman who is the Investigating Officer of the case, produced him in the court seeking a 10-day remand.
Lawyers Jaidur Rahman Zahid and Md Nuruzzaman filed a bail petition for Rashed seeking the cancellation of the remand.
Hearing both sides, the court placed quota reform leader Rashed on a five-day remand and rejected his bail petition.
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Law Affairs Secretary Al Nahian Khan Joy filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station yesterday on charge of making derogatory statements about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Rashed was arrested from the capital’s Bhasantek area around 12:30 pm yesterday by detectives and was shown arrested in a case filed under Section 57 of ICT Act.
The case statement says that Rashed gave status on Facebook on June 27 and made “derogatory remarks” about the Prime Minister. Besides, he has been “spreading misleading information to create chaos on the university campus”.
