To prevent the indiscriminate use of antibiotics, the government has taken initiatives to level red stripes on such medicines to warn people before popping the pills.
Even the government has survey reports that 67 percent pharmacies, from where people buy on the counter antibiotics, don’t have proper knowledge about the correct use of such drugs which is really alarming.
In order to save the people from it, Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceuticals Industries (BAPI) and Directorate General of Drug Administration a couple of months ago decided to level red stripes on antibiotics for easy identification.
The information was disclosed by Assistant Director of Drug Administration SM Sabrina Yesmin during a seminar on ‘Current Antimicrobial Resistance and Usages Pattern in Bangladesh’ at a city hotel.
“At least 67 percent pharmacies don’t know about the correct use of antibiotics. But the correct use of antibiotics is very important to prevent health hazards. So the government has decided to level red marks on the packets,” she said.
She further said that they conducted a survey in 427 pharmacies of eight divisions and found that 67.3 percent pharmacy sellers don’t have proper knowledge on the use of antibiotics. Even they cannot easily identify the antibiotics.
