Red Alert was promulgated in Sundarbans, the world heritage and the biggest mangrove forest of the world in order to protect its Royal Bengal tigers, the real guards of the forest, spotted deer and other wild animals from the hands the poachers and smugglers by the forest department.
Md. Belayet Hossain, DFO of the Eastern Division of Sundarbans confirmed it on Thursday afternoon.
He said the alert issued after the recovering of good number skins of various wild animals and a huge quantity of venison by the members of the different law enforcing agencies and the forest guards.
“The alert was promulgated as the killing and smuggling of tiger, deer and other wild animals of the forest was increased abnormally recently. The forest guards were directed to be more responsible and strict in discharging their duties. Not only that but also the order directed the concerned authorities to increase the patrol duties in the interior of the forest,” he added.
A ban was imposed on temporary basis on the movement of all kinds of small boats called Dingi Naukas in the interior of the forest.
The ban was also imposed on the issue of all kinds of passes and permits from all the forest offices to any body in order to collect forest resources.
By this time all the fishermen and Bawalis (extractors of Gol leaves, timber and honey from the forest) who are already staying in the forest after procuring passes and permits from the forest department were also asked to leave the forest immediately.
