The recruitment of seamen in the Bangladesh flag vessels from successful seamen of govt owned Natonal Maritime Institute (NMI) ,Chiittagong is being made compulsory very shortly and no seamen passing from private such maritime institute will not be eligible for appointment.
At the same foreign vessels should recruit atleast two seamen in each .
Following the decision of the Ministry of Shipping, the service of the local seamen will be ensured in coming days as well NMI will get govt recognition as proper seamen training institute.
The decision was taken in the meeting of concerned ministry recently, Merchantile Marine Department, Chittagong sources said. In the meeting, Director general of Department of shipping Commodore Zakiur Rahman , representatives from shipping corporation, marine academy and NMI were present, sources said.
Sources said the meeting decided to recruit seamen in local flag vessels from NMI and this is the compulsory for all vessels either in local or foreign.
He said the reputation of Bangladesh seamen undermined following the services in foreign vessels taking false CDC and certificates from private institutes as such foreign vessels suspends recruitment of Bangladeshi seamen recently .
