Recruiting meritorious teachers to provide quality edn stressed

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Thursday said the government has attached top priority to recruit meritorious candidates as teachers to increase quality of education.
“We need sincere, dedicated and meritorious teachers as they are main force to improve standard of education,” he told a conference at Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) here.
The MIST and Jahangirnagar University jointly are organizing the three-day conference titled “International Conference on Electrical Engineering and Information and Communication Technology-2016.
Principal Staff Officer of Armed Forces Division Lieutenant General Md. Mahfuzur Rahman and Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology(BUET) Dr. Saiful Islam, among others, addressed the conference. Acting Commandant of MIST Brigadier General K M Salzer Hossain, among others, also was present at the conference.
The Education Minister said the government has taken massive programmes to enhance quality of education as it is the prime challenge in the education sector.
“We have achieved a significant progress in the expansion of education in the country but we are still lagging behind in the field of increasing of the standard of education.”
As teachers are the main force to improve quality of education, the government has given training to 10 lakh teachers, he added.
“We have made computer education mandatory at all stages of education, set up nearly 24,000 multimedia classrooms, 20,000 computer labs and upazila ICT course centres to create a skilled workforce aiming to supplement the efforts of building “Digital Bangladesh,” he said.
“In order to develop a science-minded new generation, we have taken initiatives to modernize education system as traditional education methods would not be able to fulfil target,” he added.
