Zia Trust cases: Recording of depositions adjourned

The Special Judge Court-3 of Dhaka on Wednesday adjourned recording the depositions of the witnesses in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and others till January 15.
Judge Abu Ahmed of the court, set up on the premises of Alia Madrasah in the capital’s Bakshi Bazar area, passed the order after recording partial deposition on the day.
Earlier the court rejected the review petition filed by Khaleda Zia’s lawyers following the rejection of their appeal for adjournment of
 recording the deposition in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Later, the counsels of Begum Khaleda Zia filed the latest petition for reviewing its order on recording deposition in absence of their client Khaleda Zia.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia did not appear in the court for the hearing. On her behalf, her lawyers filed a petition seeking adjournment recording deposition in the case.
Advocates Masud Ahmed Talukder, Mohsin Mia and Aminuddin moved the petition, seeking time while Advocate Mosharaf Hossain Kazal opposed it on behalf of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Deputy Director Harun-ur-Rashid, the plaintiff of the graft cases, was present in the court of Judge Abu Ahmed Zamader to testify.
Three main lawyers of the defense council-Advocate Khondaker Mahbub Hossain, Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Advocate Sanaullah Mian were not present in the court as they were charged in a case filed for attempted during a clash in the High Court premises. However, five of the accused in the case secured bail from the apex court.
