A record amount of torrential rains has brought misery to Ishwardi’s public life. It has been raining non-stop since Thursday evening. According to the Ishwardi Meteorological Office, a record amount of 191.6 mm of rain fell.
Ishwardi Meteorological Department observer Nazmul Hasan Ranjan said, 191.6 mm of rain was recorded from 9 am on Friday (June 18) to 9 am on Saturday (June 19). There is a possibility of two or three more rains due to cloudy skies. If 4 to 9 mm of rain falls in an area in 24 hours, it is called light rain. 10 to 12 mm of rain is considered to be moderate to heavy of 44 to 88 mm or more.
There is no way out of the house in the rain. In this situation, day laborers and low-income people have become jobless and have become extremely unemployed. The lowlands have already been flooded. In some areas, public life has become uncomfortable due to floods in roads and houses.
It has been reported that water has infiltrated in the vegetable fields in different areas of Ishwardi, the main vegetable area. Upazila Agriculture Officer Abdul Latif said water had infiltrated in Patal, Jhinge, Kakrol, Begun, Punishak, Mistikumra and Chalkumra lands. If the water recedes in 1-2 days, there is no possibility of damage. However, if the rains continue and the water stays frozen for a long time, there is a risk of extensive damage.
