Record 665 contract COVID-19 in a day, death toll hits 177 in Bangladesh

Bangladesh on Sunday reported two more coronavirus infected patients death and 665 more new cases across the country in the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
“With the new cases, the death toll reached 177 and the total number of infected now stand at 9,455,” said Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration) of DGHS, in a press briefing in Dhaka.
Dr. Sultana said that total 5,368 samples were tested across the country since Saturday.
She further said 1,063 coronavirus patients have been recovered and left hospitals so far.
Bangladesh passed the 56th day since its first case reported in Narayanganj.
Bangladesh on March 8 confirmed the first case of COVID-19 and the first death on March 18.
The infections increased in recent days as the number of tests increased across the country.
A month earlier on April 1, the number of infections was three only.
