Bangladesh on Tuesday recorded 64 deaths from Covid-19 in a span of 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
“With the new fatalities, the body count to 1,847,” Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration) of DGHS, said in a press briefing.
The infection surged to 145,483 on the back of 3,682 detected new cases in the same span, Dr. Nasima Sultana said.
She said that 1,844 infected patients recovered in the same period at homes and in hospitals, taking the tally to 59,624.
As per the data of DGHS, the recovery rate from the disease currently stands at 40.98 percent, while the mortality rate is 1.27 percent, she added.
The latest fatalities include 52 males and 12 females. In terms of their ages, seven were between 31 and 40 years old, six between 41 and 50 years, 21 between 51 and 60, 16 between 61 and 70, 11 between 71 and 80, while three were over 81 years old.
The DGHS officials said that total 18,426 samples were tested at authorised laboratories across the country in the span.
Bangladesh reported its first virus infections on March8 and registered first death of Covid-19 on March 18.
