Since January 1 till August 29, a total of 68,410 dengue patients were admitted to government and private hospitals this year. Of them, 50,000 patients were hospitalized in August only with a new record.
Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room at Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said, since August 1 till August 29, a total of 49,949 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country- five times higher than in 2018.
Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room Assistant Director Dr Ayesha Akter said, the number of dengue patients was 38 in January, 18 in February, 17 in March, 58 in April, 193 in May, 1,884 in June, 16,253 in July and 49,949 in August. Among those admitted, a total of 63,200 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
On the other hand, two more died across the country on Thursday.
A 12-year old girl died after being diagnosed with dengue at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) here early Thursday.
Monisha Akter, daughter of Mokbul Hossain from Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpir, breathed her last in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital around 3:15am, said Associated Professor of the hospital’s medicine department Dr AKM Shaheduzzaman Ribel.
She was shifted to RMCH from Dinajpur’s M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital on August 26, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.
Monisha was living with her parents in Dhaka where she contacted with dengue. Later, she was taken to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital.
In Dhaka, a housewife died of dengue on Wednesday night while undergoing treatment in the Central Hospital.
The deceased was identified as Sharmin Akhter (30). She is the wife of local journalist Jabed Sheikh. Sharmin was a resident of Shariatpur.
Sharmin’s family reported that Sharmin was caught with fever on August 22. She was taken to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital on August 25 when the fever continued to increase. Dengue fever was detected by blood tests there. The following day, the condition worsened and she was brought to Dhaka on the advice of a duty doctor.
Civil Surgeon of Shariatpur Khalilur Rahman confirmed the death of the housewife Sharmin.
A total of 1,189 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours.
Among them, 524 patients were admitted in Dhaka, and 665 in districts outside Dhaka.
Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room at Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in a press release issued on Thursday, said that the number of admitted patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals was 5,030.
A total 52 dengue patients died from January 1 till August 29, according to their own collected data. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be over 123 so far.
As many as 2,785 patients are currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas a number of 2,245 people are undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the DGHS data said.
