The High Court (HC) on Wednesday asked the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) to reclaim illegally grabbed 14-feet expansion of house of Monem Khan, Governor of erstwhile East Pakistan on the
North and the West at Banani. The Bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath passed the order rejecting a writ petition filed by Monem Khan’s son A H M Quamruzzman challenging legality of partial demolition of the house and stay on the demolition drive.
The court observed that the family of Monem Khan had illegally occupied 50 feet stretch of land outside the area allotted to them. The City Corporation earlier reclaimed 36 feet land from the house.
The court also ordered authorities concerned to restore the utility services to the house which were snapped during the partial demolition drive.
On the day, City Corporation and Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha submitted a report to the court that Monem Khan’s family illegally grabbed land which were meant for greenery.
The High Court on November 13 asked the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) to explain under what authority five acres of land was allotted to East Pakistan governor Monem Khan in 1967.
