 Staff Reporter :Reckless driving on the highways claimed at least 23 lives and injured over 50 others in Comilla, Feni, Narayanganj, Natore, Jessore, Chandpur and Rajshahi districts on Sunday.A road accident left 10 people dead and 30 others injured on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway near Miabazar in Chauddagram upazila under Comilla district in the morning.One of the deceased was identified as Jamal Ahmed Sohel, 43, Manager of Brac Bank, Bahaddarhat Branch of Chittagong.Sub-Inspector in-charge of Miabazar Highway Police Camp Shahabuddin said the accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound truck collided with a Chittagong-bound bus from Gaibandha around 5:00am, killing the truck driver and his helper and eight passengers of the bus. Thirty others were also injured in the incident.The injured were taken to Comilla Medical College and Hospital and Chauddagram Health Complex, the SI said.The traffic on the highway was disrupted for half an hour due to the accident. Besides, a Chittagong-bound bus of Hanif Paribahan also collided with a Dhaka-bound bus in Lalbagh area in Sadar Dakkhin upazila in Comilla around 6:00 am, leaving an unidentified woman dead on the spot.In Feni, three persons were killed and 10 others injured when a bus crashed into a roadside tree on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Kasba area in Sadar upazila in the morning.Witnesses said the driver of the Chittagong-bound bus lost control over the steering and hit the roadside tree around 7:00am, leaving three passengers of the bus dead on the spot and 10 others injured.Among the deceased, two were identified as Josna Begum, 30, wife of Kamaluddin inhabitantod Tangail and Mamunur Rashid, son of Harunur Rashid, hailing from Tangail.In Narayanganj, a young man and his daughter were killed and four others of his family injured when a Dhaka-bound auto-rickshaw crashed into a covered van coming from the opposite direction on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Araihazar upazila early Sunday.The deceased were identified as Dalim Miah, 30, and her daughter Nuf Nur, 3, inhabitant of Siddhirganj upazila.In Natore, five persons were killed in a road accident on Bonpara-Hatikomrul highway in Lathuria area on Sunday afternoon.The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. In-Charge of Bonpara Highway Police Fuad Burhani said: “A rashly driven truck rammed an easy-bike in the area at 3:00pm, leaving the casualties.”In Jessore, a school teacher was crushed under the wheels of a private car at Sharsha Bazaar area in Sharsha upazila yesterday morning. The dead was identified as Niranjan Kumar Addo, 55, assistant teacher of Sharsha Pilot Model Primary School.Police said, a private car run over Niranjan when he was returning home after morning walk in the area around 8:30am, leaving him dead on the spot.Police seized the car but its driver managed to flee.Two persons were killed in Chandpur and Rajshahi districts on Sunday afternoon. The identity of the deceased could not be known instantly, police said.
