UNB, Dhaka :
The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists who have revolted for having been left out of its new committee on Monday threatened to continue their ongoing agitation unless BNP student affairs secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee and his deputy Sultan Salahuddin Tuku are removed from their party posts.
Ferdous Ahmed Munna, a leader of the rebel JCD group, came up with the threat at a press conference on the ground floor of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
In a written speech, the group also placed their three-point demand, including removal of Anee and Tuku, formation of a fresh JCD committee, dissolution of the current one and withdrawal of expulsion orders against some leaders of the rebel JCD group.
“We think Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee and Sultan Salahuddin Tuku have created a crisis in Chhatra Dal by forming a pocket committee. We call upon the BNP chairperson to remove them from their posts,” the dissident JCD leaders said.
Mentioning that they do not want to have posts in the committee, they further said, “Our two others demands will be relaxed if Anee and Tuku are dislodged with replacement by neutral leaders.”
Munna said, they will stage peaceful demonstrations in front of the BNP office from Wednesday to realise their demands. “We’ve revolted to save BNP and Chhatra Dal, not to have posts.”
On October 14, BNP chief Khaleda Zia approved a 201-member partial committee of the party’s student body with Rajib Ahsan as president and Akramul Hasan general secretary.
But the JCD men, having no place in the committee, started staging demonstrations in front of the Nayapaltan office the following day and continued it until BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir intervened on October 19.
After nearly one month’s pause, the rebel JCD group resumed their demonstrations in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on November 17 as their demands went unheeded despite Fakhrul’s assurance.
On November 25, the group locked JCD headquarters on the third floor of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on Tuesday for the second time as they did the same on October 18 demanding that the new committee be dissolved.
