REB to give 54 lakh pre-paid meters to curb system loss

Rural electrification Board (REB) will provide 54 lakh pre-paid meters for the purpose of curbing system loss in single digit. In addition, the entity wants to construct 25 thousand kilometers new electric lines every year.
REB permitted for giving three lakh and 30 thousand new connections in August. At present, they have one crore and 26 lakh consumers, said Chairman of REB B.G. Moin Uddin.
According to REB sources, three lakh 42 thousand and 739 new connections were given in June.
The number was three lakh 13 lakh and 50 thousand in May. Besides, 83 thousand km electricity lines were constructed till June.
Talking with The New Nation, Chairman of REB B.G. Moin Uddin said, we have been working to bring the whole population under power supply by 2018. For this purpose, we hurriedly approved new connections.
REB has taken up a number of steps to improve client’s facilities. For this, REB will construct one lakh 30 thousand new electric lines, one thousand 107 sub-stations and five new projects within 2021.
This year three lakh connections will be given for irrigation. They have also approved 2000 unit free electricity for martyr and injured freedom fighters. Beside this, there will be remission upto 1000 unit for 15000 religious institution, placing 15250 solar home systems, 40 solar pumps for irrigation and 30 km solar panel in each sadar of 15 upazila.
At present, REB have 77 associations and their demand is 4000 MW which is half of country’s demand.
